Nutrition for our Kids

Nowadays, children get their nutrition mainly from processed foods, usually from fast foods and other comfort foods. With this, the health of our kids is at risk and so we, the parents have the obligation and responsibility to take care of our own children’s health.

The question is, how do we do it? How can we assure that our children are eating nutritious and proper foods. Well, it is quite simple.. Just cook for our kids! Yes, make time to cook and prepare the food which our children are going to eat.

Here are 4 Things to remember when it comes to focusing on your children’s nutrition.
1.) Water

Parents should teach their kids the importance of water and be a role model in taking care of oneself by drinking a lot of water. Instead of drinking juices and sodas, which have high sugar, it is best that we introduce our children into drinking water.

2.) Energy

The body needs energy to keep it going. These are macronutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins and fats.

Carbohydrates- any of a large group of organic compounds occurring in foods and living tissues and including sugars, starch, and cellulose. They contain hydrogen and oxygen in the same ratio as water (2:1) and typically can be broken down to release energy in the animal body.

Proteins- any of a class of nitrogenous organic compounds that consist of large molecules composed of one or more long chains of amino acids and are an essential part of all living organisms, especially as structural components of body tissues such as muscle, hair, collagen, etc., and as enzymes and antibodies.

Fats- a natural oily or greasy substance occurring in animal bodies, especially when deposited as a layer under the skin or around certain organs.

3.) Micronutrients

The body also needs micronutrients such as vitamins (organic) and minerals (inorganic).

Vitamins- any of a group of organic compounds that are essential for normal growth and nutrition and are required in small quantities in the diet because they cannot be synthesized by the body.

Minerals- a solid inorganic substance of natural occurrence. It is a naturally occurring substance that is solid and stable at room temperature, representable by a chemical formula, usually abiogenic, and has an ordered atomic structure.

4.) Fiber

It is important for your children’s nutrition to have fiber. Fiber is dietary material containing substances such as cellulose, lignin, and pectin, which are resistant to the action of digestive enzymes.

Children need to be introduced to these foods which is good in the digestive functions.

These are simple yet important tips to remember when it comes to our children’s nutrition. Remember, as parents, it is our responsibility to raise them well and healthy.
